"Dems should have been more radical left" doesn't quite logically follow since "Dems are radical leftists" was apparently a winning message for downballot GOP candidates. The GOP strategy in this cycle was to argue that all Democrats are socialists.
"Trump’s big win in Florida...was cemented in the state’s most populous county, where his message against socialism and for law and order resonated heavily with Cuban-Americans." https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/11/03/us/election-day#how-trump-won-florida
Here are some Queens County GOP / campaign mailers fearmongering about crime and radical socialism in the Queens BP race.

As far as I know, there isn't a swing district progressive who ran on defund or ran on "socialism."

Running a defund candidate against Councilman Holden in Glendale Queens would be near impossible, no? There are House Dems in swing districts with voters like Glendale.
Pretty damning from AOC: "I offered to help every single swing district Democrat...And every single one of them, but five, refused my help. And all five of the vulnerable or swing district people that I helped secured victory or are on a path to secure victory."
There's a risk that Dem wings may both stick to their priors.

Moderates might be convinced it's the left's fault and that 2005-style campaigns were fine.

Left might be convinced that defund and socialism are no worse than other progressive messaging.
