The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 23 October 2020 (Week 43) was 10,739.

This was

Of the 10,739 deaths registered in Week 42, 978 mention #COVID19 on the death certificate (9.1% of all deaths).

We have included new analysis on the cause of death:

▪️ of the 978 deaths involving #COVID19, 89.4% had this recorded as the underlying cause of death
▪️ of the 1,719 deaths involving influenza and pneumonia, 17.6% had these as the underlying cause

Of deaths involving #COVID19 registered up to Week 43, 35,479 deaths (64.1%) occurred in hospitals with the remainder mainly occurring in
