#SpycopsInquiry: a short thread

There's a lot going on right now, but please pay some attention to the Undercover Policing Inquiry opening today, the inquiry into one of the most grievous and important human rights scandals of our time https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54753627
This is personal for me as I worked with and trusted some of these men. I was detained by cops at a demo alongside one, who then spent hours inside the police station after the rest of us were freed. We thought he was being harassed, but he was telling his colleagues our stories.
11 November: #SpyCopsInquiry is the most secret public inquiry ever. On the myriad barriers put in place that stop the police from being held up to account: https://twitter.com/BBCDomC/status/1326478268682235905
Today’s #SpyCopsInquiry hearing relates to infiltration of protests against the Vietnam war. Here’s a classic from one of the officers testifying: https://twitter.com/rachel787878/status/1326845267711303680
The scale of surveillance of the anti-racist movement is staggering: https://twitter.com/copwatcher/status/1326851105196740608
Taking opportunity of a late lunch break to catch up on the #SpyCopsInquiry via the brilliant briefings by @copscampaign. Up to 13/11. http://campaignopposingpolicesurveillance.com/2020/11/15/ucpi-weekly-report-2-9-13-november-2020/

The reports by the police spies is characterised by constant casual racism and sexism. Here’s an example from a surveillance report on an anti-apartheid group:
And @DaveBlacklist’s testimony also turns attention to the policing of anti-fascism. In the 1990s, while far right violence was surging, the police invested massive energy into disrupting anti-fascist organising, destroying several lives in the process. http://campaignopposingpolicesurveillance.com/2020/11/17/ucpi-daily-report-17-nov-2020/
I’m resuming this thread today as the Undercover Policing Inquiry re-opens. https://twitter.com/bobfrombrockley/status/1384772546088751108
The current phase of the @ucpinquiry focuses on the 1970s-1980s.
