We must break the cycle of ‘boom and bust’ lockdowns. The Government’s approach to the pandemic has already led us to a worst-of-both-worlds situation in which we have among the highest number of deaths and worst economic outlook anywhere. (1/4)
Govt needs to change strategy, and urgently adopt a long-term plan for a Covid-secure UK, as we laid out this week, to protect both the health and wealth of the UK. PM must think beyond just getting the R below 1, and use the second lockdown wisely to fix test and trace. (2/4)
Most importantly, the Government needs to move our frontline response away from our schools, workplaces and communities and focus on catching new cases at the UK’s entry points. (3/4)
Only when the whole of the UK is Covid-secure will we be able to save lives long-term, restore confidence, secure jobs and open up the economy sustainably. Oxon is in a worse position than it would have been had government listened to officials and leaders on the ground. (4/4)
