Please don’t be fooled by “baby safe foods”. Just because they’re the right size & cut up does NOT mean you’re safe from your infant choking. Parents— PLEASE familiarize yourself with the infant Heimlich maneuver. It saved my daughter’s life (read thread)

Our morning started like every morning. I put my 10mo old in her high chair with a handful of Cheerios to hold her over while I made her bottle. 2min later I heard sporadic sounds coming from the living room she was having a seizure & choking on her breakfast

She doesn’t have an epileptic history. She wasn’t coughing, gasping and was completely limp at this point. Her eyes were rapidly moving back and forth. Unresponsive. I performed 3 rounds of the infant Heimlich maneuver. All that came out was half a cheerio

She was breathing shallow for another 2 minutes. Limp, unresponsive, rapid eye movement. Once she came around to consciousness she was unresponsive to auditory and visual stimuli.

We called 911 and very specifically told them what was going on and where we lived. The operator couldn’t figure out where we lived ??? Or why we were calling? Out of frustration we canceled the request and took her in ourselves

The first doctor thought she had a choking episode and ordered a chest X-ray...came back normal and I pushed for another doctors input. This doctor believe it was a seizure but didn’t think other tests were necessary. I pushed for neuro consult. Neuro HIGHLY recommends a 24hr EEG

Yes infantile seizures are common. Most times they never happen again. But the fact that she was eating when it happened is what made it extra scary. Please prepare yourselves to infant emergency response... you really never know

Todays update: she had her EEG cap on over night. Which was kinda rough on all of us. A mix between nurses waking her up every 4 hours and her not being able to sleep with the cords and wires. She had a low pulse ox at 2am but she’s relatively fine rn.

I deliberately didn’t update anyone publicly on her progress because I had a gut feeling that she was not okay. She had a another mini episode this morning and went limp. I caught it on video since neurology has been giving us a hard time about actually identifying what this is

We’ve been in the hospital since Thursday. I’m truly grateful for everyone who has been so supportive. But It’s a lot of hurry up and wait. Aleera has been hooked up to a long term EEG and they caught an episode 20 minutes ago. Hopefully we have some answers by the end of today

Looks like this is nightmare of a thread has no end in sight...she had a horrific 4 minute long grand mal seizure this morning, which I feel to be related to the 6 “atonic epiosdes” she’s had leading up to this... we’re back in the ER

I asked a nurse to watch her so I could go to the bathroom and they freaking dropped her on her head... what tf is happening.
