I like the whole “only one woman can tame him” thing in fiction. Unfortunately IRL, it took one too many times to learn if you’re the only person he’s good to, that will soon change.
Being someone’s emotional support animal may seem romantic and empowering but it’s also burdensome because you get the blame when something goes left. “Why weren’t you there? You know how I get.”
The few family members and friends he does have, relieved that you’ve now shouldered the burden of keeping him calm, become nervous at the thought of having to take on the duty again so they too join in: “You should’ve been there! You know how he is.”
If everyone knows “how he is,” he needs to be held accountable, get some help, and stop using romantic partners as shields. Be your own peace.
