What's disappointing Peter *still* seems to not know why this is so wrong

The question implies that due to Tarek's Muslimness, Peter thinks there is chance he might be okay with a gruesome beheading & he must disassociate himself to *prove* that's not true

This is not okay https://twitter.com/PeterRNeumann/status/1322286388331642880
Given the gruesome murder is so horrific, it is easy to think: "who wouldn't want to speak out against it"

But most people - especially those in positions of authority & influence - know how wrong it is to assume collective responsibility.
Why should an ordinary Muslim here, *have* to say he disagrees with a disgusting murder?

Do all white people have to say they disagree about all disgusting white murders? Or terrorist acts? Or state overreach? Or white supremacy? Or...
Or are we smart enough not to ask in one case, but obtuse enough not to, in the other?

But the problem is that this racist way of thinking has become embedded.

I don't blame ordinary people (& that's why Muslim orgs publicising position is important in some cases)
The issue is that the structures which have embedded this, and those in power & influence, who should know better, who have perpetuated this.

That's why it's more important that Peter is called out for this - than the numerous no-name trolls who attack Muslims in the public.
Tarek's own thread is a more powerful & clearer explanation of why this is so problematic https://twitter.com/Tarek_Younis_/status/1322467138112815105?s=19
What I didn't mention in this thread - is that questions to white people about why they all don't condemn white supremacy etc - aren't as problematic, because of the broader securitised narrative where a non-answer has far more ramifications for a Muslim.
Important thread here too https://twitter.com/Fatima_Ahdash/status/1322485531377311744?s=19
