A thread on the legal and independent EHRC report. Some highlights for people standing up for Jeremy Corbyn. 1/ The report found serious failings in leadership during the period the investigation looked at, and an inadequate process for handling antisemitism. Corbyn was leader.
2/ The report concluded there was an unlawful practice of political interference from Corbyn’s office in antisemitism complaints. They were able to influence decisions on complaints, especially decisions on whether to suspend someone.
3/The EHRC investigation found that the Labour Party has committed unlawful acts. They served an unlawful act notice on the Party. These complaints provided evidence of acts of antisemitism in the Labour Party, and of the Party’s handling of antisemitism complaints
4/ The EHRC found the Labour Party responsible for acts of antisemitic harassment by its agents. The types of conduct that may be directly discriminatory or amount to harassment can include written or spoken words, images, physical gestures.
5/ examples of antisemitism cited.
• diminished the scale or significance of the Holocaust
• expressed support for Hitler or the Nazis
• compared Israelis to Hitler or the Nazis
• described a ‘witch hunt’ or said complaints had been manufactured by the ‘Israel lobby’
6/ referenced conspiracies about the Rothschilds and Jewish power and control over financial or other institutions • blamed Jewish people for the ‘antisemitism crisis’ in the Labour Party • blamed Jewish people for actions of the state of Israel• used ‘Zio’ an antisemitic term
7/ The Labour Party broke the law and destroyed its relationship with the Jewish community under the previous leadership. In this case change is a good thing.
