No one wants to get paid in exposure or in experience. When you get opportunities to work in this industry, the good bosses will open the doors that have that gatekeepers wouldn’t, they’ll give you a healthy work environment, you’ll want to be there because you want to learn.
The assumption that people will ‘work for free’ just to be in the room where it happens is dying. If anything, it died. Bury that concept. People want to get paid but when the job is wonderful, the pay is a welcome bonus to the experience.
Some of my greatest jobs included minimal pay. But I showed up and wanted to be there because the environment was magic - the people were supportive, the crew were a blast, and the show a joy. As a person currently unemployed, don’t settle for a hostile experience.
Assistant’s look out for each other. I text friends to warn them about people, they do the same - everyone talks in this business. We all want to work, we all want to reach our goals, but trust me destroying your sanity and health for a job is not worth the climb up the ladder.
End of thread. Rant over. Pay assistants a fair wage and treat people the way you want to be treated. ❤️
