Spoke to a driver today who gave a ride to @dkhos in San Jose in 2017. Wanted to share it as the media tell us the Uber CEO is "a diplomat" and "unflappable".

Well here's how he treats his own workers when the reporters are not around...

1/x
It was early in morning. The driver was to pick up a passenger (who turned out to be the Uber CEO) from the San Jose convention center.

The app was telling the driver that the passenger was in the middle of the building so the driver called to ask the passenger where he's at...
Uber CEO: "Follow the app, it tells you where to go."

Driver: "Sir, it shows you in the center of the building"

Uber CEO: "I'm in the pick up zone."

Driver finds a red zone. He's worried he'll get a ticket for stopping but risk it & stops as he didn't want an angry customer.
When he got in car the Uber CEO threw briefcase across backseat and hit side door.

Uber CEO "The app says to make a right".

Driver: "I'm local. This way is quicker, also please put your seatbelt on."

Uber CEO: "Don't tell me what to do."
By now the drivers heart is racing as is blood pressure. He doesn't have medical insurance & tries to keep his blood pressure low.

Light turns green to go straight

Uber CEO "Just go straight across"

Driver: "When light goes green to turn right, I'll do a U turn..."
The driver is from San Jose and knows it's quicker to make a u-turn and was hoping once he made it the app would correct itself and his passenger would realize the drivers route was quicker.

But before he could, the Uber CEO said:
Uber CEO: "God you are so stupid, can you even read the map?"

Driver (at the end of his tether): "Sir, I'm going to drop you off across the street.

He moved to the sidewalk and waited for the passenger to get out.

Driver: "Will you please get out of my car?"
The Uber CEO slammed the door and angrily said: "You will never drive with Uber again."

Driver: "Maybe you will never ride ever again"

Uber CEO: "We'll see about that..."
The next day the rider was 5 rides away from a $500 bonus he'd been working towards. He took a bathroom break and was walking back to his car when he got a notification:

"You've been deactivated".

There was no number to call to ask what happened.
He'd been fired and there was no recourse. He wasn't sure if it was related to incident with the angry man the day before. He tried to figure it out but couldn't get an answer from Uber.

Months later he was watching the news and he saw the angry man on TV.

It was @dkhos.
The news story was an interview with the Uber CEO.

It was about how @dkhos was brought in to change the image of the company, that this was he guy who'd treat drivers better.

The driver couldn't believe it: He'd been fired anonymously by the Uber CEO.
As you decide whether you are voting no or yes on Prop 22, remember this story. How we treat those around us matters.

Respected publications painte @dkhos as unflappable & a diplomat yet this is how he treats people he considers beneath him.

Support drivers. #NoOnProp22
