Been thinking lately about how the term “homophobia” doesn’t address the underlying problem LGBTQIA folks face. I think “Heterosexism” speaks to the broader social system

Meaning, regardless of individual fear, there is a cultural system seeking to make everyone straight.
Which flys in the face of much anti LGBT dogma which believes that it’s the culture that makes people queer.

But what they fail to see is how this pervasive cultural system does far more to re-enforce heteronormativity than encourage queerness.

To be queer is to swim upstream
Basically. I’ve think heterosexism more than homophobia is a better term when critiquing anti-LGBT dogma.

Same way I’m starting to use the word “disinherited” more than “marginalized”.
