Getting into political beef on social media with people you don't know is really just pulling a grenade and dropping it. After 2016 we learned that Russia and Iran are investing resources into influencing elections through sm.
We also learned that our administration couldn't care less about the integrity of our democracy, the same democracy we've died and committed atrocities across the globe to 'protect', but I digress.
We're in a situation where foreign governments are refining their technological arms, and we rest any countermeasures on the shoulders of companies who have no incentive to combat the issue. Shouldn't the US government be the protector of democracy it's always claimed to be?
You can argue that Facebook and Twitter are removing fake accounts, but I would emphasize that they are removing fake accounts IF and WHEN they want to.
You can laugh at the obvious 'speaking as an African-American' fake accounts, but with resources and time they'll get less funny and harder to identify. It should never be the responsibility of tech companies to enter an arms race with foreign governments.
So if the responsibility isn't on tech companies, and it isn't on the US gov because 2016 went so well for them, it frighteningly falls on individuals. So be diligent before you respond. You might get your point across, but so will they.
Please understand I'm not saying don't be political on social media, never that, but don't argue with people unless you know where their grandma stay.
