nah y know what i am gonna talk about it. the way they handled helena being blind in the stageplay is an amazing example of how disabilities should be treated in shows.
there’s like. a kind of side story within the main one about helena. she’s not the main character but she gets a lot of screen time in the play and it’s basically the survivors kind of having an instinct to treat her like a child and she keeps telling them that just because-
-she has a disability doesn’t mean she can’t do things on her own. she’s her own person with her own goals and fears and desires and her blindness is NEVER treated as a joke. it’s just one part of her character as a whole.
there’s even a scene towards the end of the show where norton, eli, and helena are all at the exit gate and she blows up at both of them and has a whole monologue about how she’s not weak and she’s tired of being seen as a child by the others and how she just wants-
-to be seen as a person so they can all leave the manor and go home.
it’s so well done and her actor does an incredible job at portraying her. i haven’t seen the other episodes but i really hope they do her justice like the first episode.
