Cops beat this Black woman and her nephew to the point they had to be hospitalized, performed a Trump-style family separation from her baby, then the Fraternal Order of Police used her son for pro-Trump propaganda. This is disgusting.

My godbrother, who is a retired cop, sometimes sends me the letters he still gets from his union and they read like Gotham City manifestos in the darkest ever Batman comic. They are aggressive, drip with testosterone & contempt for city leadership & mock the public as helpless.

Even good cops, which my godbrother was — never laid a finger on a soul while in uniform and stayed in the community — get immersed in that defensive culture. We can’t reform policing if these unions are calling the shots.

But it doesn’t get much worse than using the stolen body of a Black child for this type of propaganda.
