This theory of trauma tourism needs a revisit - for anyway keeping up with this, my initial basis against trauma tourism is the misguided premise that writing solely and continuously about the trauma of others, rarely brings change
Often it’s well intentioned, just misguided and ill informed about how change works... we see in LGBT movements, feminist movements and BLM that it is those who feel the effects actually lead change from strength and activism
The regurgitation of trauma actually works as a mechanism to sustain oppression and inequality. However, it it clearly evident that some trauma tourism publication actually has no underpinning foundation to even envision change, and isn’t misguided at all in that pursuit.
It is simply and only, a means for self attribution and profit at the expense of other people’s trauma. And that goes beyond the realms of trauma tourism. I don’t know what to call it.
