SPOILER ALERT: we’re worried b/c they’re trying to abolish cash bail & replace it w/risk assessments which are driven by algorithms which are inherently racist + judicial discretion (racial bias, anyone?), all of which would lead to Black, Brown & poor people staying in jails https://twitter.com/motherjones/status/1322248002468282368
They will also flood probation departments with money to monitor and supervise people on release (hello mass surveillance). The goal is to defund police (probation is an extension of law enforcement), not further inflate their budgets.
Like I’ve told everyone, the issue of cash bail, with Prop 25 being on the ballot, has been very contentious across the state. I’m voting NO on Prop 25. I have comrades who are voting Yes. What we all know is that we will have to organize whether it passes or fails.
Our work is not done when the ballots are counted, our work continues.
Didn’t realize this would blow up, I’ll use this opportunity to plug LA’s Alternatives to Incarceration workgroup report in which they created a progressive pre-trial model. I hope folks read through this report to see that there is a better way to

Abolish cash bail that would NOT further incarcerate Black, Brown & poor folks. Putting our faith in judges and algorithms isn’t the way to go.
Ok, last thing and then I gotta mute this cause I can’t keep up with the notifications.
