A delay of CBA negotiations is an agreement to an extension of the current CBA. We already know how the players & their Union feel about the CBA. They are disappointed & want to change several articles. MLB wants to keep the status quo because it benefits the owners. see MLPBA agreeing to delay negotiations & extend the current CBA unless there is some serious incentive to do so & I don& #39;t see one at this time from my vantage point. Looking at a timeline, the new CBA really needs to be in place with enough time to affect the 2021-22 2/
offseason free agents to have significant value for the players. For a CBA of this scope and with this much mistrust b/w the parties, I can see it taking at least 12 months. It would make sense to start now with internal teams drafting proposals & meeting face-to-face in 3-4 3/
months, so perhaps in Jan or Feb. Teams don& #39;t normally meet continuously in CBA negotiations. They meet for a week, then work separately for a couple weeks, then get back together. I& #39;ve done continuous negotiations and they are exhausting, but much less time consuming. 4/
MLB has a number of tv extensions coming up in the next couple of years. @BizballMaury is the subject matter expert on those. If MLB can delay negotiations and get into those new payouts from TV, the owners get a windfall. MLBPA knows it. MLBPA needs to address getting players 5/
paid earlier in their service time (whether that& #39;s earlier arbitration, significantly higher minimums, earlier free agency, or some other method), fixing service time issues (solving manipulation), and incentivizing competition (disincentiving tanking).

MLB wants to expand 6/
playoffs permanently (And that comes with the distribution of revenue from expanded playoffs).

These issues cannot be ducked. Most of those desires are on the players& #39; side of the ledger, which goes back to my original thought. It will take a lot to get the PA to extend. /end
