Ali Rabiee, the Rouhani administration's spokesperson, spoke earlier this week about #Iran willingness return to the #JCPOA & touched on the issue of compensation. Here are his full quotes: 🧵
2. "Our policy on the #JCPOA is and has been clear. With Trump’s exit from the JCPOA, we did not exit.

Despite their expectation that we would exit based on our clear policy we did not exit and today we see the impact of this."
3. " #Iran’s reduction in compliance was in response to the reduction in compliance of the other sides.

We have announced that that if all sides return to compliance, the Islamic Republic of Iran will also return to its previous commitments."
4. "For us it makes no difference who becomes the president of the United States and it makes no difference who makes the decision to return to the #JCPOA. We act in accordance with our principle."
5. "If any president in America makes this decision, we will welcome it. At the same time, America has to be responsive about the damages it has imposed on Iranian people because of its unilateral exit from the JCPOA ...
6. "... and America must be ready to make other commitments to prevent a repetition of this kind of law breaking."
8. Rabiee, similar to Rouhani & other officials in his administration, has touched on the issue of "compensation" for the US withdrawal from the JCPOA.

But none of them have drawn a hardline on it nor have they preconditioned a "compliance-for-compliance" #JCPOA return on it.
9. Khamenei has also not spoken about compensation for a JCPOA return. Hardliners in #Iran talk a lot about it, which partially accounts for rhetoric we're seeing from Rouhani officials. But if US returns to JCPOA & Iran feels economic benefits, such rhetoric will likely dissipate
