One of the biggest challenges we face as we try to #EndAnglophoneCrisis is the fact that while we expect good governance from our leaders, they have no interest in governing or even ruling. They want to reign. This is not unique to Cameroon, it's an African problem.

This is the reason why the state media is there to sing the praises of whatever regime is in power at the time. Their disdain for dissent is rooted in their desire to reign, Louis XIV or Kaiser Wilhelm II style
This is also why with #EndSARS or #EndAnglophoneCrisis or #Guineevote the focus wasn't on the merits of the issues raised by the protests but on the fact that the people dared to question their leadership or lack thereof. They believe themselves to beabove reproach.
This is also why they surround themselves with sycophantic yes men who sing their praises. This is very intentional, you'll notice it even with minor functionaries. The lust for adulation is stronger than any integrity they might have.
Opposition leaders are always enemies of the state because to them they are the state. Louis XIV of France once said "L'Etat, c'est moi" or "I am the State". Opposing the regime in power is deemed unpatriotic and treasonous.
Democracy to them is a means to an end, the Constitution is only sacred when it serves them. As soon as its provisions become inconvenient they're amended or the entire Constitution is scrapped for something more accommodating
Law enforcement is co-opted. They look the other way while the politicians loot and in exchange they're allowed to abuse their powers. The armed forces only exist to prop up the regime. Basically a lot of African rulers are warlords albeit funded by the taxpayer
The only reason Africans are even allowed to live is because there isn't a cheaper alternative for our slave labour. Regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation all of us are equally worthless. Our only hope is to look past these artificial differences and unite.
African leaders have no idea on how to govern a free people. They see us as subjects.
