We live in such a polarised world that I doubt the people who signed this had an opportunity to actually hear alternative arguments from the very many survivors who support the @nordicmodelnow such as @RachelRMoran https://twitter.com/southsidegrrrl/status/1322212019924324354">https://twitter.com/southside...
It would be good if they had the opportunity to hear of the harm caused to abused women with little economic power in places where there is state sanctioned commercial sexual exploitation as @bindelj has written powerfully here https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/oct/11/prostitution-legalised-sex-trade-pimps-women">https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp...
Those who campaign for the decriminalisation of commercial sexual exploitation need to know that in practise it means the state giving a thumbs up to pimps. Everywhere this has happened it has led to MORE prostitution, violence and trafficking see here https://www.feministcurrent.com/2015/10/20/chris-hedges-rachel-moran/">https://www.feministcurrent.com/2015/10/2...
Anyone genuinely wishing to look into both sides of this issue should note this peer reviewed study of prostituted women in 9 countries where the levels of violence and PTSD were off the scale https://nordicmodelnow.org/facts-about-prostitution/fact-prostitution-is-inherently-violent/">https://nordicmodelnow.org/facts-abo...
The Nordic model is effectively an “end demand”model which supports women and NEVER criminalises them. So a woman who is violently attacked by a punter in Sweden can pick up phone and report them without fear And it reduces demand by educating men. @nordicmodelnow
You can read more about how The Nordic Model works in this report from the secretary of the Scottish Parliament CPG on Commercial Sexual Exploitation. It dispels myths & shows how the system has ended demand - though you need to put in resources https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/nordicmodelnow.org/2019/09/28/report-on-the-scottish-parliamentary-prostitution-fact-finding-trip-to-sweden/amp/">https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/nor...
Reducing demand is key to building a society that is built on respect for women - not men’s sexual rights. That’s why I admire the guts of @ashtenRD a real feminist MSP who is consulting on this- respond to the @scotgov consultation here https://consult.gov.scot/violence-against-women-team/equally-safe-reduce-harms-associated-prostitution/consultation/">https://consult.gov.scot/violence-...
And let’s remember that women rarely if ever buy sex. Women do not kill and torture men who sell them sex. Let’s not kid ourselves that decriminalising exploitation is about equality. It’s about blokes’ “needs”. And feminism is NEVER about putting men’s needs first
