After a ton of thought and a conversation with @_shireenahmed_, I am going to preface this whole thread by saying I believe the abuse, trauma and well-being of Isaiah Meyer-Crothers should be at the forefront. Cont
That said, I honestly believe that the Coyotes should not have renounced their pick days after saying they were going to work with Miller to assist him in his issues which seem to be beyond just bigotry and hate and could very well be psychological.
Miller is not 14, he’s now 18, an adult and from all accounts still shows no remorse for his behaviours. Which seems like there is something deeper going on.
This to me is a failure of the courts and all the hockey teams and leagues that have worked with this kid for years
Including USA Hockey, UND, the USHL and the Coyotes. The Coyotes have wiped their hands of a situation that they just said they would be a part of the shift and rehabilitation process. This type of behaviour is prominent in hockey culture. Wipe your hands of the problem.
Act as if it doesn’t exist. This type of thing is the reason why players like Colin Wilson and Lehner hid their mental illness.
The Coyotes and all the other groups who tied themselves to Miller should have done more for Isaiah and got Miller the help he needs.
Isaiah should have been uplifted. He should have been provided opportunity to have therapy and support paid for by those who have attached themselves to miller knowing what he has done.
But this speaks volumes of the culture of hockey and how they still don’t get it and refuse to do work necessary to understand.
It’s why I was incredibly frustrated that the program put together that was squashed recently isn’t happening.
