We were very excited to be a part of the amazing discovery of the medieval bridge in the River Teviot by Ancrum & District Heritage Society. Here's our photogrammetry model of one of the surviving pier foundations

For archaeologists, this foundation is fascinating. It was built using branders, a wooden framework laid on the riverbed upon which the courses of stone were placed. This is the first time branders have been found in an archaeological context in Scotland.
The timbers proved to be perfect for dendrochronological analysis and radiocarbon dating, which allowed @Dendrochronicle and @SUERC1 to date the bridge construction to the middle of the 14th century, older than any bridge still standing in Scotland.
Thanks to ADHS for this amazing discovery and their incredible research. Have a look at their website for more information on the bridge https://www.adhs.co.uk/projects/ancrum-bridge

@BorderArch
Thanks also to HES for funding the work, and @Dendrochronicle for her expertise and enthusiasm!
