Buying an ugly house = “easy” equity. Idk what drugs the previous owners were on when they chose these ugly ass floors but it’s gonna be great to rip em out; big eventual reappraisal booster
I’ll keep this thread updated with the progress. I’m taking this all the way down to the joists (99% sure they’re rotted). Gonna be a dope before & after
The floors were bouncy so we thought the joists were rotted but they’re not & we’re happy about that. I think we just need reinforcements under them to minimize the space between and prevent the bouncing. Gotta get some contractors in here for professional opinions
When the previous owners added our unit to make the property a duplex, the bums that did the work didn’t reroute the official dryer vent out of the house. It’s been blowing humidity and lint under our side’s living room for almost 20 years

I updated it to yesterday

Side note - 90 degree angles are not recommended for dryer vents but it’s acceptable if the line isn’t too long. Cutting joists is also not recommended but this route meant cutting the bottoms of 3 joists vs 10 if to route it at a 45 degree angle
They also failed to include a crawl space vent so that’s step 1 today then I’m coming in with the blocking & new subfloor

Vent on pause. My man Mitch said it’s probably not necessary

Rerouting the AirBnb dryer was necessary though and it’s complete & working perfectly!
(Vent placement isn’t the best but it was the best option for the situation)

About the bouncy floors... Contractor said $4k to reinforce the joists from below, but he said it wasn’t necessary.
We think removing the bounce is necessary but we def not spending $4k on something not structurally necessary.

So here’s the fix:
Rocks + cinder block + wood + shims + screw = Make shift beam half way through the joists
Rocks + cinder block + wood + shims + screw = Make shift beam half way through the joists
The first one has no support beam underneath and is still wobbly. The others now have the support below and WAY less wobbly!
(The second one I test in the video used to be the most wobbly one in here)

Gotta finish the “reinforcement beam” and add the subfloor tomorrow.. a little behind schedule

Update: Subfloor is down! But not screwed in yet. Gonna secure it tomorrow then it’s on to paint for the walls, trims and ceiling before putting the new vinyl down
