For those dumbfounded by #LilWayne and others’ support for @realDonaldTrump, let me briefly explain:
1) @LilTunechi doesn’t believe #systemicracism exists, just like Trump.
@JoeBiden believes #racism exists.
I could stop there, but let me proceed.
A thread in 8 points.
2) For some people, admitted the role that racism has played in their life, due to advantage (like Trump) or disadvantage (like residents of Wayne’s New Orleans during #covid19 ) disrupts their narrative of success and opportunity. Most people can’t admit that.
3) To some men, Trump embodies a form of hegemonic masculinity and rugged individualism that they were socialized to aspire to become.
This is particularly true of some Black and Latino men who are limited in their ability to fully enact and embody hegemonic masculinity.
6) Working-class Whites have done this for decades with their overwhelming support for Republicans, though this is changing too.
7) How desperate does #Trump have to be to do a photo opp with a rapper 5 days before the election during a global pandemic on a day where nearly 90,000 people contracted the virus?
@jnthnwll
8) Finally, Photo opps like this fuel claims that Trump is paying for votes. And some people will continuously sell you out, sell out their communities, and even themselves for some Lil change, not social change but pocket change.
