This is the modern Sherlock Holmes story I actually want to see https://twitter.com/ex_aItiora/status/1305076886498930688
Modern Sherlock Holmes where Watson actually IS gay but for some other guy, and Sherlock is ace-aro, uses they/them and when asked about identity just says vague things like "I have found gender to be an unusually useless categorisation technique"
Modern Sherlock Holmes where they're plural and the reason they notice so much shit is that their alters are constantly pointing it out to them and they can't turn it off.
Modern Sherlock Holmes where after meeting Irene Adler, Sherlock doesn't just fall head-over-heels for her or really even break out of being aromantic, but will often consult with her on cases they're investigating for reasons they can't quite explain
(Even in the original canon, Irene Adler is SUPER smart, portrayed as being Holmes' intellectual equal, WHY HAS THE IDEA OF THEM HAVING A NOT-ROMANCE IN WHICH THEY EXCHANGE DEFINITELY-NOT-LOVE-LETTERS WITH EACH OTHER UNDER THE GUISE OF PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANCY NEVER BEEN DONE)
Modern Sherlock Holmes where the fact that they do drugs is not a huge plot point, but they do smoke a whole hell of a lot of pot, and it annoys Watson not because he thinks it's bad for Holmes' health but because Holmes is behind on rent but can somehow afford all this pot
Modern Sherlock Holmes where they smoke pot but do not try to do a cringeworthy adaptation of the "three pipe problem" quote like "this is a three toke problem," instead using an equally cringeworthy but original stoner phrase such as "I am immersing myself in the mindspace"
"Holmes, the bin has been full for three days, can you PLEASE empty it"

"Sorry Watson, my perception is currently scattered across the possibility space"

"Cool, cool, cool, can you possibly empty the fucking bin then"
Watson can't smoke because he's a doctor and gets tested regularly and he had to force Holmes to at least go out onto the balcony to toke up so that their entire flat and all the clothes that have to stay for long periods therein don't reek of weed constantly
Modern Sherlock Holmes where they passive-aggressively respond to people using he/him on them by repeating the entire sentence back with the pronouns corrected, every single time, until the person in question either gets it right or stops talking.
