Perhaps a bit of an unpopular opinion: I don’t really care about BBC staff talking about their politics, faith or other aspects of themselves in their Twitter bios. We know they have their biases (they’re human beings) and I’d rather they were honest about them.
I care far more about bias in the corporation’s output — and knowing which way its journos sway helps identify it.
I also care about there being more diversity of opinion at the corporation, to better reflect the makeup of the UK more broadly. Stopping people expressing their views won’t lead to that, just make it harder to identify that an imbalance exists, and therefore to correct it.
