Quick story. I’m on Recruiting Duty in the mid-80s in rural NC. I’m trying recruit this young man from Murfreesboro. He’s 17, so I need parental consent. I’m invited with my+1 for Sunday dinner.

This was one of the best home dinners ever in my life! The parents signed for their son to enlist. It was a good and learning day all around. My point?

We have much more in common then we do not. I learned this as a young man from NYC trying to fit in rural NC. It is a lesson which stuck, as good lessons do. This election can help us be us.
