Starpro’s anniversary art is incredible, I love it, and so should you; a disorganized persuasive thread.

Good morning everyone. As stated in the top tweet, this is going to be a lovemail thread about the starmaker anniversary art pictured in the top tweet. (Yes, I called it starpro. Yes, even though they’re my favorite label. No, I don’t know why I can’t stop doing that.)

We’re going to be covering a few things here that I think makes starmaker’s art the best. These are;
- Posing
- Personality/display of character
- Visual grouping/interaction

Probably not in that order b/c I am a lovemail mess and have been thinking about this art for 12 hours.

Proven immediately by me going for the last point first; I LOVE how everyone in the starmaker art is touching at least one other person. This is maybe bias b/c starmaker also has the least amount of internal unit strife among their units but everyone is interacting with each-

-other in the art and it’s SO GOOD. It makes the art more visually interesting and I know several people who were like “Well I was rolling for Tetora and didn’t get him but I got Chiaki and he’s literally in the card so that’s okay” which means it makes people feel good. 10/10.

(This is also probably a side effect of starmaker having 17 people in it and therefore having to be close b/c otherwise they don’t all fit in the shot but it’s imo still a good thing.)

Posing v1: fine. I’ll talk about this again w/Alkaloid but I really like how only two people in this art have their backs to the camera and one of them is international man of mystery Hibiki Wataru. Wataru’s pose also has a ton of drama with the rose and the raised pinky finger.

It has both the showmanship and also the fact that he’s hiding something (or many somethings), and I just think it’s Good

Yuzuru is very on-brand with the half-bow of deference, polite face, and archetypical butler pose. He just looks exactly how he should. Also very good.

I’m ALL OVER how Eichi’s sitting with the really space-occupying commanding leg cross. He looks like a unit leader!!! He just does!!! Also the charming posed-smile he has is in a lot of his cards and I really like it when a character has consistent facial expressions like that.

That’s not what he actually smiles like, but it’s what he smiles like in idol photos. Very good.

I could go OFF about Tori but I’ll try to keep it brief. The fact that his toes are pointed up and slightly crossed is ADORABLE and I think very fitting. He also has the little-

-scheming steepled fingers but a disarmingly cute expression which is very good. Kana also pointed out the unit’s relative positioning and how Tori and Yuzuru are physically separated from each other and I think putting Eichi in the middle is VERY fitting to how/why-

-that relationship has changed. But back slightly more on-subject Tori just has this very cute little princess sit and I would die for him, thank you.

ALSO OF NOTE: they made the chair Eichi’s sitting on a weird as fuck stool-ottoman looking thing in order to prevent it blocking most of Wataru which I’m really glad they did because I think the weakest part of the rhylink art was that if you wanted Rei you were rolling for like-

-20% of his back and a bunch of chair which is honestly BS and I felt bad for ReiP.

POSING V2; alkaloid. This is person with their back to the camera #2 mister “can’t be in public without having a panic attack” Ayase Mayoi who looks SUPER nervous and it just makes sense. He’s literally sweating and is mostly hidden and it just....works.

Also TatsuMayoP come get your food the fact that Tatsumi is standing mostly in front of Mayoi literally shielding him from the camera is so good??? It’s a very protective type of pose and demonstrates that Tatsumi is a person Mayoi literally hides behind. He also looks-

-like a fucking youth pastor on a bible trip with that static “Hello! :D” friendly type of hand and it’s so cute.

The fact that Hiiro has the least dynamic pose out of his whole group makes a lot of sense b/c he’s new here and probably was only like 10% aware of what-

-a camera was when he entered the room so him not really knowing what to do with himself works really well. I love how Aira is literally pointing him in the direction of the camera like “You need to look over here”. Cute.

Also shout outs to the fact that Aira and Eichi look like different people with different faces in this art which gonna be honest happy elements is not always the best about so that’s good.

In general the fact that they’re in the background despite being the new protagonists-

-works well b/c they’re canonically inexperienced and not super popular. Alkaloid good. Next question.

RYUSETAIIIII there’s so much to like here. Kanata and Chiaki for real look like proud parents of their three kids (I have 100% seen that Kanata pose on 100 moms that are Hovering in case something happens) and it’s adorable.

I have a ryuseiP friend who blew up my notifs when they saw me making this thread so I’ve been asked to point out; the fact that Kanata has his arms literally defensively posed over Shinbou in the context of the “You’re not the only one who’s happy to have been taken in”-

-bit? Unreal. Incredible. The parallels. Thank you. ALSO CHIAKI LITERALLY HUGGING TETORA AND MIDORI IS JUST....it’s SO Chiaki. I also really like how Midori is a little uncomfortable-looking but still SUCH an improvement from his previous cards and anni arts. The growth! 10/10.

The fact that Chiaki and Tetora are almost but not quite making the same face is a very good parallel as well. They look like a family!!! They are so supportive of each other!!! Wow.
