My client has been testing positive since JULY- I filed a motion for extension of time to voluntarily surrender them to the federal bureau of prisons so as not to continue the rampant spread of the virus through the BOP
all I asked is that they not be required to surrender until he received two negative tests at least one week apart. We even offered house arrest until surrender (because they’re isolating anyway).
The Court denied the motion because Atlanta USP is “currently accepting COVID-positive inmates.” He will purportedly be required to quarantine for his first two weeks and then be released in to gen pop. I’m sorry- WHAT?!
This person has been testing positive since July, what are two more weeks of quarantine in jail going to do that 3+ months of isolation outside of jail hasn’t done?!
