When I was in Grade 3, one of my teachers asked my classmates & I to draw what we wanted to be when we grew up. I drew a goalie playing for the Montréal Canadiens. Others drew firefighters, doctors, & engineers.

Unsurprisingly, I don’t remember anyone drawing a drug addict. 1/5
Because no one seeks out becoming addicted. A person’s addiction is often the result of childhood trauma and/or our society failing them in innumerable ways. While we may refer to this as an opioid epidemic, it really is so much more. 2/5
And people in our community are dying as a result. In Kitchener alone this year, 68 people have died from drug overdoses. This already surpassing the 63 people that died in all of 2019. By comparison, 120 people have died this year from COVID-19. 3/5
