So, what is this Criminal Law Reform Committee?
This committee is looking into the IPC, the CrPC (the Code of Criminal Procedure),Indian Evidence Act and the Narcotics Act and making attempts to bring reforms in these within closed doors of NLUD with 5 member all-male committee.
Here are just some of the changes the Committee is contemplating:

In future, convictions might be based on confessions made to police officers. These confessions are currently not permitted as evidence in trials because of the pervasiveness of police torture.
The scope of certain sedition offences might be expanded so that you can be convicted of omissions or inaction that is regarded seditious. This is a problem because the concept of ‘sedition’ is amorphous and is often used to persecute people who are critical of the government.
We might be convicted and punished without knowing what evidence is being used against us. This is called sealed cover evidence.
We might be punished for things even if we did not do them intentionally or recklessly. This is called ‘strict’ or ‘no fault’ liability and can rest a huge amount of power with the state.
Prison statistics shows that the number of Muslims, Dalits, and tribal population incarcerated in jail is disproportionately higher than their numbers OUTSIDE. New Reforms will have a direct consequence on these groups!
