FYI if you've got this far - thread on European lockdown situation as of Oct 19 here: https://twitter.com/Mark_Coughlan/status/1318158952044154882?s=20

This thread updates same. Ireland moved to level 5 on Wednesday October 21.
Germany: Plan to move to national 'limited lockdown' announced to *avoid* "a national health emergency" after cases doubled in a week. They're still on the low side of incidence rates in Europe.

Some regions have tighter restrictions, but from Monday: https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-angela-merkel-defends-lockdown-warns-of-difficult-winter-in-germany/a-55430787
Poland: Further to this, govt announced on Oct 24 that the whole country is now a 'red zone'. https://twitter.com/Mark_Coughlan/status/1318155235198730242?s=20

More secondary schools are now online, gyms etc closed nationwide. Govt worried about staffing of med system, turning nat'l stadium to 500 bed field hospital.
Sweden, one of two prisms (NZ), thru which all lockdown debate must, seemingly, pass:

This week, like most EU states, record cases. But per other Nordics, still low incidence rates.

New recommendations in three regions: https://www.thelocal.se/20201029/new-coronavirus-measures-for-three-swedish-regions-including-stockholm-and-gothenburg
Italy: Record cases too. Govt ordered early closure of bars, rests & shut gyms, cinemas etc. Lombardy worst off, depressingly.

Avoiding 'general lockdown' is govt's absolute priority, it says.

Exponential growth but below EU trend line for now.

Norway: Another Nordic, has some of the lowest incidence rates in ECDC area.

However, like others, seeing record numbers, albeit very low records. Was at about 1,800 cases a *week* per last thread, yesterday *daily* number was c.400.

Some new measures in recent days:
*Eurovision voice* Staying in the neighbourhood, Denmark:

Cultural insts, schools, gyms open. New face mask requirement indoors after uptick. New limit of 10 at public gatherings, down from 50.

*Massive* testing, neg test at border. Circa 800 cases daily but -2% positivity.
Last, Netherlands: ICU patients sent to Germany since last thread, serious system pressure. 'Limited lockdown' intro'd on Oct 14 to be extended 'into December'. Possibly of further tightening next week, PM waiting to see impact. Big numbers.

And Belgium has just now gone back into lockdown.

Prime Minister: “We are going back into a strict lockdown, which has only one purpose, to ensure that our healthcare system does not collapse.”
