My boyfriend when I was 18 initially just thought I had a "really good tan". He was a tad, well, stupid. Anyway IRL that& #39;s the closest anyone has gotten to mistaking me for white in my entire life so it never ceases to amaze me how many random tweeps have views on my appearance
I was sitting on a tram one day listening to my tunes when a woman started waving at me to get my attention. I thought she might need directions so I took my headphones off. Nope, she just wanted to ask me what "nationality" I was.
Then there was the school grounds. I got called "nigger" and heard the ABC joke more than once. I even got told to "go back to your own country" by some fool who then had to deal with my friends pointing and laughing at him.
When people haven& #39;t known, I have been mistaken for Maori, Native American, Lebanese, Indian - in short, a bunch of not white people.
But even all that aside, I have always been Arrernte. I have stated so from the time I hit school, it usually takes new people max 10 seconds of engaging with me before it& #39;s stated, it& #39;s included in all my work, all my articles, my twitter info, my Facebook info, everywhere
My point w all this is that it& #39;s amazing to me that randos on socials think they have the right to comment on my appearance, or the appearance of any other Aboriginal person, & tell us we& #39;re not enough. I& #39;m ranting bc I& #39;ve been set off tonight but it happens all the time. FRO DHs
It doesn& #39;t matter how dark or fair we are, we& #39;re not a fucking spectacle for tweeps to analyse and take apart at their leisure. We don& #39;t exist for you. We exist for mob, for community and they& #39;re the ones who get to judge where we fit, not rando tweeps.
