Probably the right time to share some facts of Bhopal.
Bhopal was annexed into India after 21 months of Independence in June 1949.
If the Nawab had his way, he wanted to go with Pakistan.

Later, Bhopal was chosen as the capital in order to allow new settlers to be brought in and balance the demography. Thats how thousands of new govt employees were brought into Bhopal and New Bhopal was given a shape. Old Bhopal was and even today is inordinately Muslim.

Still later, BHEL was set up in Bhopal to encourage another demographic shift by bringing in over 10000 families from across India. This was the time when the demography of Bhopal turned Hindu majority.

Jan Sangh had a prominent role in the polity of Bhopal and its first Public representatives were from Bhopal. Over the years Bhopal became a RW city with INC barely managing to find representation here.
But the old ghettos still survive and fester in their toxicity.
