I know people can be sniffy about livestreamed theatre. But isn't it cool to be able to say your live show has infinite tickets available. Not only that but they can be available to anyone anywhere. And they can be significantly more affordable.
Seeing people say that their shows have limited tickets and must be snapped up speaks to a type of supply and demand that maybe is changing. And perhaps should be changing.
I would love to see a lot more shows hybridised after this is over. I want people back in rooms, but why are we throttling supply when we no longer have to.
The idea of only an elite few getting into a room and paying lots to do it seems increasingly problematic. Surely there can be layers of access to theatre and different ways of accessing it. The tech and the systems are all there. People just need to use them.
I know a lot of the old guard just want things back the way they were. But that's because it suited them. They don't care that it didn't suit lots of other people. They want full houses and rip off ticket prices back. But it doesn't all have to be that way.
In addition. Big famous shows with stars in them would sell LOTS of streamed tickets and this money could be used to develop and produce new and riskier work. We need ecosystems rather than winners and losers.
