BOO👻 It’s the spookiest of all the weekends, so here’s a thread of horror/horror adjacent films you can watch ~now~ on Netflix.

First up, HIS HOUSE (2020) – in which a refugee couple struggle to adjust to their new home that has an unspeakable evil lurking beneath the surface.
HEREDITARY (2018)

When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter’s family begin to unravel cryptic and terrifying secrets about their ancestry. To put it plainly: NOPE
APOSTLE (2018)

Dan Stevens plays a man who travels to a remote island in search of his missing sister who has been kidnapped. What ensues involves gnarly imagery, deranged cultists, and a sinister slow burn. Very similar to his Eurovision role tbh.
VERONICA (2017)

For some reason horror is even scarier in other languages. This Spanish supernatural horror is loosely based on true events which means we’ll never sleep again. So that’s fun.
MALEVOLENT (2018)

A brother-sister duo – played by Florence Pugh and Ben Lloyd-Hughes – fake paranormal encounters to make some easy cash. Karma turns out to be a bitch when a job at a haunted estate turns very, very real. (Except not, ‘cause it’s a film)
CAM (2018)

In this psychological thriller, a young camgirl – whose channel is taken over by a lookalike – sets out to reclaim her identity. Real Black Mirror vibes.
FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009)

A group of teenagers take on the job of reopening Camp Crystal Lake, despite being warned against doing so by the locals. Unsurprisingly, they come across a homicidal killer. This all takes place on Friday the 13th. Hence the name.
HUSH (2016)

A deaf writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life fights for her life when a psychotic killer appears at her window. CAUTION: Don’t watch if you’re home alone. Also this is from Hill House/Bly Manor showrunner, Mike Flanagan. So...yep.
HALLOWEEN (2018)

It's been 40 years since Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) survived an attack from masked killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Now Myers has escaped, she must confront her worst fears and put an end to his killing spree.
SINISTER (2012)

A true-crime writer discovers the existence of a snuff film showing the deaths of a family. He vows to solve the mystery and puts his own family in the path of a supernatural entity. Terrific soundtrack. Genuinely disturbing.
AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS (2018)

On Christmas Day, a family wakes up to find that they are sealed inside their house by a mysterious black substance and a note on their TV which reads “Stay Indoors and Await Further Instructions.” It’s never too early for a Christmas movie :))
INSIDIOUS (2010)

It’s a tale as old as time – couple buys house, house is spooky, couple leaves house but the spook now follows them. The couple’s son falls into a mysterious coma so they seek professional help and eventually Realise Some Things.
THE CONJURING (2013)

Ed and Lorraine Warren – a pair of ghost hunters/paranormal researchers/people you’d avoid on the bus – find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives in this truly creepy horror.
ORPHAN (2009)

A couple who recently lost their baby adopt a 9-year-old girl named Esther. They soon find out that Esther is not quite who she seems. This one’s got masterful camerawork, enthralling twists, and most importantly, Vera Farmiga yelling “I’m not your fucking mommy!"
FREDDY VS JASON (2003)

Think Blur vs Oasis but with two of horror’s most notorious killers. Nightmarish Freddy Krueger and serial killer Jason Voorhees go head to head in this iconic hybrid slasher. (For the record, Blur.)
THE INVITATION (2015)

Dinner parties are scary for a whole other reason now, but back in their heyday, a man accepts an invitation to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife, who has sinister plans for the guests. But still, imagine actually going to a party <3.
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (2011)

Featuring five young college students and every single horror trope ever (including, yes, an actual cabin in the actual woods!), the movie has one of the most shocking twists of the genre.
CALIBRE (2018)

Two childhood best friends travel to a remote area of the Scottish Highlands (note: Scotland is one the most spooky countries) for a hunting trip. Brilliant idea, can’t imagine how it could possibly go wrong…[immediately goes wrong in the worst way]
ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES (1993)

Not a horror film, but 100% Halloween appropriate for those who don’t enjoy being scared and who read horror plots on Wikipedia. An absolute triumph, and perhaps the best sequel in the history of film.
