The Game Awards segment I most look forward for is in reality Best Narrative. Because believe me when I say, the best games, the ones that leave an impact are in that category. I have played all of it bar one, and let me say they all left a mark.
One of it more than the rest but I have talked enough about that one. The nominees for 2019 were
1. A Plague's Tale: Innocence
2. Control
3. Outer Worlds
4. Disco Elysium
5. Death Stranding

the one I missed A Plague's Tale, so ill cover the rest.
Control, I got this game when their 1st Expansion The Foundation was released. Let me tell you, first up I SIMP Jesse Faden. A game with that unique Sam Lake touch, Remedy made a supernatural thriller that looks absolutely beautiful and also just so well written. You want to
what's going on and there is soo much to explore and the attention to detail. NOT TO MENTION THEY CREATED CONTINUITY TO ALAN WAKE FOLKS. To all those fanboys that have been screaming for more Alan Wake, get yourselves Control.
The Outer Worlds then, Obsidian have long been credited as the creators of the best Fallout game of the modern era. Yes, Fallout 3 was good but Fallout New Vegas was the game that brought the Fallout franchise into the modern age. Ask any Fallout aficianado and he will point at
New Vegas as the best of modern times. Back to Outer Worlds, this game is the spiritual successor to New Vegas. The sort of storytelling you'd come to expect from those with such talents for immaculate stories. Add that to zero shackles from Bethesda, now that is something else
But something is missing from Outer Worlds, maybe because we all grew collectively tired with the post-apocalyptic genre given Fallout 76's abysmal release. It was a good game and I enjoyed every bit of it but there is something uniquely Fallout that's missing.
Disco--- nah let's do Death Stranding first. Death Stranding, the long awaited mega project from the genius mind of Hideo Kojima. The trailers made us stare at awe, of course the Decima Engine used in game was widely considered amongst the most hyper realistic game engines and
now it was propriatory to Kojima Studios so they'd take full advantage of it and boy did the game look good. The barren lands of America never looked so good, Death Stranding is best played at 4K. You'd enjoy the stellar sceneries and the immaculate character details
And you'd want to check those details because the ensemble cast is amazing itself. Norman Reedus, Madds Mikkelsen, LEA FUCKING SEYDOUX (another woman i simp for) and also Guillermo Del Toro. The story despite it's rich detail was held back by the attempts of this game
to bridge the gap between what is a movie and a game. Much of it you are left to watch instead of partake in, which is why for me it took a backseat. Death Stranding will be a game we look back in the future and say it pushed boundaries but not in narrative but what is a game
Finally , the game I never stop talking about Disco Elysium. Created by Za/um a small Estonian studio that dreamed big. Quite honestly, just trust me on this. Get the game, play it. Just do it, words will never be enough to do justice to the writing of this game. Disco Elysium is
art. Game art at it's best. The artstyle of the game itself is such a pleasure to see and enjoy. Then there is the music from British Sea Power, spend the extra money and get the Artbook and Music Kit it is worth it, once you're done with the game. You'd want to experience it,
you'd probably not have time for a playthrough but you can listen to it's hauntingly beautiful and soul-filling music. Then the narrative, never has a game started off by giving you nothing and in the end you could end with nothing, you have that much freedom in the game.
When i finished this game, I turned off my PC and spent the next day, processing the experience I just had. Yes, partially because it felt very much relatable to me but the way upon the messages and experiences are imparted have been never done before to me. Mind you my list of
completed games especially story based ones can go on and on and on. Disco Elysium is a standout, a true gem. I will safely say, when this era of games comes to end. When we talk about a story based game that left a mark, Disco Elysium will be at the top of that list.
