Muhammad (pbuh) was one man who lived in 7th century Arabia. For 1400 years he has had a profound influence over the lives and identity of millions and now billions. People who can’t even influence their neighbours think they can insult such a great man!

Even as a person who is not a believer in Islam would have to agree that what Muhammad (pbuh) achieved during his lifetime was quite extraordinary. He stopped female infanticide, successfully persuaded people to give up alcohol, gave inheritance rights to women...

First time the slave owner has to marry a slave (hence freeing her) if he wished to have a relationship with her. Muhammad (pbuh) successfully defeated the business of loan sharks by banning usury based transactions.

Muhammad (pbuh) made rich and the poor, white and the black, stand together in prayer as equal in humanity. No one was untouchable. No one was bigger or smaller on the basis of family ties. A person was only better than the other on account of his good deeds.

In battles Muhammad (pbuh) didn’t sit in war room sending troops to fight for him. He was there on the front lines getting injured with everyone else. He could have named his inheritor but he didn’t because that was not a part of his mission.

Muhammad (pbuh) not only was a philosophical guide, he was able to establish a new civilisation based on the philosophy he preached. In 23 years Islam became the primary religion of Arabian peninsula. Less than 2000 people died in conflict (including Muslims) over 23 yrs

Muhammad (pbuh) established an idea that lived far beyond him. Many great thinkers over hundreds of years influenced humanity using the ideas he established. The West tries to appropriate Rumi but Rumi was a scholar of the Quran. Just one example.

Muhammad (pbuh) didn’t sell magic cures, when people came to him to ask about future he said “if I knew the future I would have multiplied my wealth and no harm would have come to me, I’m just a Warner”. A simple man with utmost grit and determination to change the world.

It’s easy for us to imagine what the world is. But 1400 years ago no one really knew how big the world is. Yet Muhammad’s teachings (pbuh) was directed at the world. The Quran hardly has any local references. Just to have that vision is something quite incredible.

What are the enemies of Islam going to do? Try & defeat Muhammad(pbuh) by making cartoons? Instead they shud try & learn from Muhammad (pbuh) that the world can be changed if there is sense of purpose. Many “isms” came & disappeared but Muhammad’s mission (pbuh) still continues.
