Apparently, there will be a cyberattack going on today. Here's what you can do to protect your Twitter account:

• Add an extra protection measure, a two-factor verification app (like Google Authenticator), could do the trick.
Follow the instructions to link the 2FA app to your Twitter account.

• When you add the 2FA verification method, backup any login code the app grants you. Write it in a blank paper. You don't want to create a backup account, because you lost access to your previous one.
• Change your password, at least every two weeks.

• Change the e-mail, which your account is linked to. Always, make sure to create e-mail accounts just for your social media profiles.

• Do not add your current phone number as a verification method.
• Turn the Direct Messaging filters on: only allow DMs from people you follow, and who follow you back. The app has them disabled by default.

Locking your Twitter account might work in a short-term manner, but what you need, it's a long term protection against hackers.
Good luck, stay safe and don't open any weird link or spam a new follower might DM you.

Make sure to RT and spread the word. I'm open for more suggestions and corrections.

Best to prevent, than cure.
