Everyone has a way of defining Messi. We choose some adjectives, compliments, liken him to some fictional heroes, movie characters, artists. And still we can’t find “the” word for him.

We’re looking for the ‘impressive’ portrayals but while looking for them, we’ve became more speechless. So much so that throughout the years we’ve gone lost for words. Now any description doesn’t seem like justify him.
I’ve been watching Messi since the very first day of his career. And the starry aura he has, had never changed. That special character, that unbelievable humility and maturity have always been there. He has the ‘legend’ veins in him.
I was a 13 years old kid when he scored his first hattrick, in a Clasico game at 19 years old. The feeling i felt that night is still same.
Whenever i watch him, it’s the exact same bliss, it never fades away.
Back then he was like a superhero to me but now it’s different. When i look at Messi i liken him to so many historical/mythological characters and artists. The journey he had is more than enough to reminds me of them.
When i think about his all ups and downs with the teams he played, there’s absolutely not a single moment he didn’t feel the passion for the game. When he‘s winning or losing, his eyes are always on the ball. It’s almost like he’s hypnotized.
And even at the times when he literally let down by the people around him, he never complained and blamed them for the failures. He never thought about himself first, team’s always been his priority.
Teams lost finals, crucial matches, conceded crucial goals, so many times missed the perfect chances he created but i’ve never seen him showing a giving up expression on his mates in 16 years for once.
So many vultures waited and wait for his ‘finished’ body but he never collapsed, never crumbled. He always came back stronger. He always found ways to smooth teams’ path. However they did the opposite for him many times.
Copa America Finals, WC Final, UCL Semi and Quarter Finals.. He flied and dragged his team along with him to the hills. But his wings weren’t enough to keep their weight on the sky alone. So he’s been left disappointed.
Still he’s always rised from his ashes. The first i thought about this, was in 2014. And it was the moment i realized that;
Messi is the Phoenix.
The Phoenix is a mythical bird. When it’s tired and died a new one born from its ashes. It symbolizes hope, rebirth, grace, solitude and eternity. Just like Messi.
Messi is hope of the millions upon millions. I have no idea how many people pin their hopes on him. His all comebacks are rebirth for them and his teams. His existence means there’s a hope till the last second.
He is the representative of grace. He never plays dirty, never makes unnecessary ugly moves, always plays with love, passion and respect. On and off the pitch, he never leaves the kindness.
He is the face of the solitude. He’s alone at the top of the football world and he’s alone on the pitch in last years. It’s so good and sad to watch, at the same time.
And finally, he is eternal. His legacy, his achievements, the things have been said and done for him, the things that he’s done and said, all the work, dreams, hopes, everything he did will be told to the future eternally with an admiration.
His tale-ish, poetic, novel-like football story has always been too good to be true. So, thinking that him being like the Phoenix can normalize a bit what this supernatural artist has been doing for years.
He is the man, the myth, the legend.
He is the Phoenix.
Always rises from his ashes.
