Man Utd 5 - 0 RB Leipzig. Tactics. #MUFC #RBL #MUNRBL
#MUFC used a narrow 433 out-of-possession. In possession, #MUFC used 334 shape in final 1/3. Deny verticality through the center but leaving flanks exposed. Kampl man-marked.
#MUFC buildup from back in 2422 that shifts into 2242 in middle 1/3. 242 in buildup created triangles & diamonds. 3+ passing lanes - bypass press.
#RBL out-of-possession 532. Flanks exposed. Give #MUFC FBs more freedom in final 1/3. #MUFC took advantage of it. Shaw highest attempted crosses (4).
#RBL (in-possession) used 334. Their buildup play used 3421 with their 2WBs pushing high & wide to take advantage of United's narrow shape.
Press #mufc:

#mufc used 5-man pressing system (32 shape) using the wide CBs and WBs as triggers. Combined man-oriented and passing-lane oriented press.
If #MUFC lost possession in the final 3rd, they press the man on the ball (depending on space) or cut-off all the passing lanes. #MUFC were very successful in their pressing as they recovered the ball in #RBL's half 15 times vs RBL's 11. 50% team press efficiency. Improved.
Example of #mufc closing all passing lanes and forcing #RBL's Upamecano to make a bad pass.
Press #RBL:

#RBL used a 5-6 man pressing system (141 shape). The FBs were the press triggers. Also, Combined man-oriented and passing-lane oriented press. In the middle 3rd, #RBL using an inverted pentagon to cut off all passing central lanes.
Tactic:

#RBL use the stopper-cover model for vertical penetration. A mid drops to receive ball, returns it, then 3rd man found in space with a vertical pass. #mufc prepared for this and used Fred's recovery pace to intercept. Fred intercepted the ball more than any other player.
Tweak:

#RBL dropped Poulsen in midfield, pushed Olmo higher & Kampl remain b/w #mufc 1st & 2nd line. Create a 4v3 in midfield & free WBs.+ Free man ball nearside creates 2v1 vs #mufc FBs. #RBL regained control. Attacked heavy w/ crosses down the right side with Olmo (free man)
Tweak:

#mufc stretched their wide forwards and had them drop. #mufc changed defensive shape to 451. 5v4 in midfield. Disadvantage: #mufc lost attacking threat. 0 chances created rest of the 1st HT but they contained #RBL to 1 chance as well.
2nd Half. Tweak:

#RBL changed shape to 4231. Nkunku & Angelino as wingers & Olmo moved to DM with Kampl as he was man-marked all game by DvB to help create from deep. Moved Henrichs back to FB from WB (contained by Shaw). #RBL defensive shape 532 -> 442.
Tweak:

#mufc changed their defensive shape from 451 to 442. Martail and DvB stayed up and Greenwood and Pogba pushed to the wings.
#RBL pressed more aggressively in early in the 2nd half. Their pressing went full out 6-man press. This helped them find gaps on the flanks with late run from their FBs.
Tweak:

#mufc pushed Matic further up when in #RBL's final 3rd to help counter-press when ball is lost. Final 3rd shape changed from 334 - 244. Reason: Fred had to cover a lot of ground to press when ball is lost. This led to winning the ball for the 3rd goal by Fred higher up.
#RBL sub:

Henrichs OFF & Sabitzer ON - another creative midfielder - at RB.+ Nkunku OFF & Sorloth ON. Another ST. In their buildup shape the 244. #RBL had 3 creative midfielders in their 2nd line to break #mufc down & 2 STs. Disadvantage: they were open defensively.
#mufc Sub:

Greenwood came OFF. Rashford ON. Greenwood was not using the space left on the flanks by the #RBL FBs and Rashford is better at running the channels at this point and fresher. Matic was on a last warning - routine change.
Tweak:

After 3rd goal, #mufc changed shape from 433 narrow - 4231. #mufc buildup play changed to 2413/2431.
#mufc Goals:

21': Open play build-up.
74': Counter-attack.
78': transition/pressing.
84': transition/counter-attack.
92': open play build-up.

" #mufc only score from counters"
#mufc vs #RBL used 2 formations. 4 shapes. 4 buildup patterns. Adaptability.

End.
