Saying it loud. Its really stupid & self defeating that we in India demonize liberal arts courses!! As if the 1000s of useless engineering colleges produce excellent workers for tomorrow! There’s a much larger world beyond being an engineer or doctor or a management professional

Liberal arts is not just about being a JNU or Jamia Milia Islamia type left liberal dens! There’s a whole world of soft skills, language and communication skills, study about different business ethics and culture, managing diverse teams that we Indians actually fail to learn.

How do you do business in Europe? How do you manage a team that has ppl from diverse backgrounds. How do you nurture and carry a team with different personalities. How do you negotiate business with ppl from different cultures? Right now Indians are winging it frankly!

Hence what we as a generation chasing after IITs and IIMs have become is a bunch of merit seekers who have forgotten that there’s a whole new world beyond. We look at every issue from closure POV with a objective, logic outcome thinking. There’s no sensitivity to subtleties.

And there is a false sense of worldview that everything in the world is a mathematical problem to be solved. How good are we with open ended problems?
