Like many of you I spent much of yesterday on here. I have read the EHRC report in full and the reaction to it. I confess that I had expected Starmer to accept the report and pledge to implement its recommendations without descending into specifics or dealing with individuals.(1)
I was fortified in that view watching the press conference and Keir's near steadfast refusal to pass comment on his predecessor. Fortunately such is Corbyn's toxic mix of vanity, stupidity and selfishness he issued a statement which forced Starmer's hand. (2)
Whether I am right or wrong and he intended a confrontation with Corbyn et al is moot. What is beyond doubt is that as a result a rare, once in a career/generation opportunity now arises. An opportunity akin to Kinnock's 'Militant' conference speech or Blair's 'Clause IV' (3)
This is a time to resist all talk of party unity, healing divisions, coming together, the 'broad church' On the contrary this is a moment for laser like and single minded focus. Those like Corbyn whose politics are inimical to the values of the Labour Party must go. (4)
They have been indulged for far too long. He and they should have been expelled long ago along with Militant whose expulsions they opposed. Antisemitism and their response to the EHRC is the litmus test; an indicator of a wider poison to the politics. (5)
Time, effort and resources will doubtless be required. The task must be ruthlessly pursued. Ridding the party of far left antisemites who support terrorists and espouse other extremist views will do @UKLabour no harm whatsoever at the ballot box. Quite the contrary. (6)
Let Corbyn and co form their own party instead of leeching parasitically of Labour as they have done for decades. Such indulgence led to the "morons" giving him sufficient nominations to get on the ballot paper. Such crass naivety nay stupidity must never be allowed to recur.(7)
