Bry’s comments in this are maddening but also quite revealing of how deficient her knowledge is on land use and the Midway Community Plan, which came to council during her term. + https://twitter.com/fox5sandiego/status/1321996669324533763
She said the removal of the 30-foot height limit was “done without community input,” but it was the Community Planning Board itself that put the measure forward, supported it with a UNANIMOUS vote, and is running the campaign. +
Then, she said they should have discussed this in the newly adopted Midway Community Plan. But they couldn’t legally remove the height limit in that process, because it requires a vote of the people. (And so would any other removal of the coastal height limit in SD, by the way.)+
Bry correctly notes that the planning group’s newly adopted community plan adds a lot more density. But she fails to understand that this level of density with a 30-ft height limit can only be achieved by covering every lot fully with buildings. +
What the Midway and Point Loma residents would like much more is for that density to be achieved via 6-story buildings that leaves some land available for parks and open space. But we need to get rid of the nonsensical height limit! +
Hence the broad support of Measure E from a diverse coalition that includes enthusiastic support from the affected community. Barbara is either clueless or lying about the situation around Measure E. Either way, it’s yet another reason she’s unfit to lead this city. /end
