Auburn is a truly unique place for how former coaches are welcome back. Gus Malzahn is a truly unique person in this profession full of egos to be the one to approve this happening. For as much criticism as this program gets, this kind of thing is really special. https://twitter.com/AuburnFootball/status/1321990903712669696
For what it's worth, I'd wager there hasn't been a coach since Coach Jordan who would be completely on board with honoring a past coach. Only reason why the field got named for Coach Dye during Tuberville's tenure is because of him getting into the HoF and some deep pockets.
And for anyone thinking Gus didn't have much to do with this, understand that things like this don't happen without the head coach signing off. He can catch criticism for decisions he makes on the field but he's done so much good for the community. Especially this year.
Finally, Chizik unequivocally deserves special recognition in this program's history. That year may have been a perfect storm but I would not trade it for anything, including how his time ended. It makes me happy that he feels welcomed at Auburn still because he's special to us.
