NEEM TREE: GIFT OF GOD

Neem is the manifestation of Durga or Maa Kali. The tree is also referred as Neemadri Devi. Sheetla Mata (one who cools) resides in the tree. In South India, Sheetla Mata is known as Devi Mariamman.

During Samudra manthan, Indra Devta,accidentally, spilled amrit from the kalash on Neem tree making it a cure for all ills.
Neem is also associated with Dhanvantri (Devta of medicine).
Neem protects mankind by killing or weakening the insects, believed to be created by demons.
Neem is called Sarvo Roga Nivarini – the cure of all ailments. The entire tree is full of benefits. Briefly:
Neem Leaves: Used in treatment of eye disorders, leprosy, intestinal worms, acne, fever
Neem bark: for stomach ulcers, skin ailments, malaria, fever and general body ache.
Flowers: to reduce the bile production in the body, reduce phlegm
Neem Twigs: Effective in treating cough, asthma
Neem Seeds: in the treatment of intestinal worms and leprosy

The stem, root bark, and fruit are used as a tonic and astringent.
In Ugadi festival of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, front door is decorated with Neem and mango leaves to ward off negative energy and evil spirits.
On festival day, tender Neem flowers mixed with jaggery are eaten. This symbolises that life is a mixed bag of sweet and bitter.
In Maharashtra, on Gudi Padava, the New Year, people drink Neem juice before starting festivities

The Jagannath idols of Puri are made of Neem heart wood along with other essential oils and powders

It is said that one who plants 3 Neem plants will live in Suryaloka after death
Neem tree is used in the test of truth-speaking in some tribes. Sangam Tamil literature says that if someone speaks a lie under the Neem tree, it would wilt and wither away.
