[Thread] PWG, Battle of Los Angeles Sept. 2 2012, The Young Bucks and Brian Cage versus El Generico and Rick Knox... and ???.

This match has one of the best moments in PWG--possibly one of the best in wrestling. I love it.
Fed up with the Bucks and Cage, referee Rick Knox has challenged them to a fight and enlisted Generico to help. He begged Kevin to help too, as Kevin has beef with Cage, but when Generico offered his hand Kevin laughed and flipped him off. So it's just Knox and Generico alone.
Knox accepts a challenge of a test of strength from Nick Jackson.

It does not go well.
But Knox isn't just a hapless victim; he pulls out some offense and wows the crowd!
El Generico's arm drags seem particularly crisp and energetic tonight, his energy is high even though he's basically in a three on one handicap match. Knox is great but Generico can't depend on him too much.
Indeed, the beginning of the match quickly becomes a long sequence of Generico getting brutalized by @MrGMSI_BCage while the Bucks jeer.
There's a distinct pleasure in seeing Knox experience first-hand how frustrating it is to deal with a wrestling referee's situational blindness. JUST TURN AROUND, DAMN IT.
As Generico struggles toward the tag, those nefarious Bucks take out Knox, hurling him against the ring post and knocking him out. Now Generico has no tag partner at all.
He fights on alone, hitting a brainbuster against the brawny Cage.
And that's when Kevin Steen suddenly emerges from the back to take in the fallen Knox and Generico's terrible predicament.
The Reseda crowd, bless them, breaks into a deafening "HELP STEEN HELP" chant... and Kevin leaps to the apron and holds out his hand for the tag.

Generico goes to make the tag and freezes, seeing his bitter enemy there. Is this a trick? A mockery? He can't be sincere, right?
He looks to the audience for guidance, and they jump to their feet, begging him to trust Kevin one more time.

And finally he makes what has to be one of the hottest tags in wrestling history, as Reseda leaps up in joy.
Kevin is about to go over the ropes at his foes when Generico interrupts, angrily saying HE is the one who'll attack them. A tense standoff ensues, and it looks like the fragile alliance might collapse.
Knox intercedes and they reach some level of detente before pulling off this three-way plancha as @ShutUpExcalibur breaks into incoherent squawks of delight.
The match continues--Kevin and Generico even make a normal tag!--and Generico delivers this thunderous high-angle Michinoku driver to the hapless Nick Jackson.
A double clothesline from Knox, a powerbomb from Kevin, and the tide has definitely turned.
Knox, still tearing the place up, hits a swinging DDT--and then Kevin and Generico freeze as they realize they're in the perfect position to do their finishing tag team move for the first time in almost three years.
They do the piledriver-brainbuster move like it hasn't even been a week without it, and Knox adds a splash and gets the pin and the victory!

Kevin may only have joined in out of spite for Cage, but his instincts for teaming with Generico are stronger than their bitter past.
Kevin extends his hand after the win, and Generico is tempted, but instead we close the match on mutual cordially hostile middle fingers. No reconciliation yet for Steen & Generico.
The PWG audience doesn't know it, but Generico is in final negotiations with WWE at this point, and PWG is where his story with Kevin will reach its most satisfying closure before he disappears.

But not yet.
