[THREAD] I have an idea about why Bill de Blasio is so intent on delaying the Wilpon's sale of the #Mets to Steve Cohen @SportsLawLust.

Yesterday, the NFL sent a memo to owners reminding them of the approval process for ownership transactions. In this memo, they acknowledge...
...that there could be more transactions in 2020 than in years prior. Why? Because under the Democratic leadership's proposed tax plan, capital gains tax, estate tax, and gift tax would all increase, meaning team owners & families could save millions by making changes now...
By getting the deal done before the election, both Wilpon and Cohen stand to save millions of dollars.

So why would de Blasio want to intervene?

Over the years, de Blasio and former NJ Gov. Chris Christie have had one of the most contentious relationships in all of politics...
...particularly during the 2015-2016 election cycle, when they sparred over policing, refugees, crime, homelessness, and more.

At times, it has gotten personal, with Christie calling de Blasio "an embarrassment to this country."

How do Cohen and Wilpon play into the feud?
...Both Wilpon and Cohen are close friends and supporters of Chris Christie.

In 2015, Cohen donated over $4 million to pro-Christie super PAC "America Leads".

Wilpon, who also happened to employ Christie's son as an intern at the Mets, also chipped in $100,000...
Does anybody doubt that de Blasio would invoke an obscure clause as a delay tactic until after the election to cost two old friends of his most-hated political rival millions of dollars?
