Life has given me so many things. But do I have a regret in life ?

Yes, I have some.

My greatest regret is that today we are in 2020. I met Laldenga in July 1979. It is 41 years now. He was a man with great experience. We spent 11 years together. We talked everythig. /1
We dicussed Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Sheikh Mujib, Z.A.Bhutto, Yahya Khan. We discussed some basic issues how does an insurgency begin ? What mistakes MNF made and what mistakes government of India made. /2
I got to meet Pu Zoramthanga and my dear dear friend Tawluia. They are seasoned men. Whenever I sought their help and advice in the national interest, they always helped me do my job better./3
MIzoram accord was signed on 30th June 1990. Laldenga took over as the Chief Minister in the 3td week of August 1986. MNF won the elections held in February, 1987. PM Rajiv Gandhi attended the swearing in. I came in as the first Advocate General./4
In 1988, Laldenga’s government was pulled down by organising defections. The man who had spent a lifetime in the underground did not know the art of defections. Mizoram Assembly was dissolved in September 1988. /5
In September 1988, Laldenga came to Delhi. He sought a meeting was Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Just as they met, Laldenga said :

“Prime Minister, you have stabbed me in the back !”

Prime Minister had no answer./6
Then came January 1989. The mid term elections were held. MPCC came forward with an agenda to make Mizoram a ‘Christian state’. The election petitions were filed before Guwahati High Court. The petitions were dismissed. That was a bad precedent and denial of justice./7
