Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb is the first Ancient Egypt documentary I’ve seen from the perspective of a full-Egyptian excavation team. No Brit, no Americans, just a people seeking their history. They humanize excavation of mummies. Giving life and honoring the lives of the dead
In the film one of the men speaks of the importance of Egyptians doing this work, more so than foreigners. At one point someone states “we are looking for information, not objects.” They aren’t disrupting the dead to steal and flaunt, but rather to tell a story and learn
What I enjoyed most was how emotional the entire team from the diggers to the archeologists were. They gave so much humanity and dignity to the dead. You could tell how much passion they had. They were careful with the bones and wondered about the past lives even as they worked
10/10 would recommend. They also made great discoveries. It was a beautiful film both aesthetically and narratively. I don’t think I’ve watched a history documentary like this. I loved it
